The Work of Dr Ashvin Bhalekar

The Work

A single body of work, approached from several directions

The scholarship gathered here moves between a professional framework, its philosophical foundations, and the wider condition of mediation today. Each part can be read on its own; together they set out one continuous argument — that professional technique becomes more trustworthy when it is supported by sound judgement, ethical discipline and sustained mediator formation.

The Framework

The five dimensions of the HEART Model

The HEART Model of Mediation

A five-dimensional framework for mediator competence — Holistic, Empowering, Adaptive, Rational and Transformative. HEART is wisdom-based and competency-oriented: it strengthens the mediator's capacity to integrate method, ethics and situational judgement, without taking ownership of the parties' decisions. It asks not only what a mediator should do, but what kind of mediator one must become to hold difficult conflict well.

The Foundations

The Doctoral Research

The scholarly foundation of HEART. A doctoral inquiry into whether principles relevant to conflict engagement and mediator competence can be systematically derived from the Bhagavad-Gītā, tested against contemporary mediation theory, and translated into a secular, plural and professionally usable framework — through a transparent, auditable qualitative method.

The Bhagavad-Gītā

The principal civilisational source examined in the work. It reads the Gītā not as a theory of modern mediation, but as a sustained study of conflict, counsel, self-mastery and judgement under pressure — identifying families of mediation-relevant constructs and translating them, not transplanting them, into professional competencies.

The Books

Heart of Mediation Krishna Mediates Civilisational Synthesis

The Three Books

A connected trilogy that moves from professional practice to philosophical foundation to method. Heart of Mediation develops the framework; Krishna Mediates examines the source; Civilisational Synthesis names the method by which wisdom from a tradition can be translated, transparently and accountably, into contemporary professional knowledge.

The Context

Mediation in Modern Times

Why contemporary mediation needs more than a larger toolbox of techniques. It sets out conflict as a layered human phenomenon, the three orientations of resolution, management and transformation, and the professional-judgement gap that an integrative framework like HEART is designed to address.
